After care
It has been shown that a recovering person who reaches
their first birthday has an 85% chance of reaching their
fifth birthday. Getting to that first birthday is a
significant milestone on the road of recovery. Many
who begin their recovery with great commitment and enthusiasm
do not make it to their first birthday however.
The slipperiest time in recovery is when
the pain subsides. When it doesnt hurt so much
and the consequences of an addiction are not in
our face it is easy to slack off. Addiction is
a raging monster that never sleeps or relaxes its effort
to reclaim a life. As one man said, all the time
I was in treatment my addiction was out in the parking
lot doing pushups.
Some of the most common reasons (excuses) for not staying
connected to recovery are that the effort to work
a program of recovery is too hard and they dont
have time. Both excuses indicate a loss of focus on
how serious a disease addiction is and what it takes
to keep in the fellowship.
Our program (among a great many other fine programs)
is built around convenience rather than complexity.
We have created 16 short reminders and pep
talks of critical information in C.D. format that
a person moving through their first year can listen
to anywhere. We take away the excuse that, I dont
have time and remind the person that whats
hard is relapse. Recovery is a reward.
Topics covered in our after care to the first
year product:
- Your addiction wants to kill you
- The absolute necessity of committing to a group
- Manage your emotions
- Spirituality is the only solution
- The steps
- Working a program and accountability

Stage II Relationships SKU: 6590 Love Beyond Addiction
Popular author and workshop leader Earnie Larsen offers clear and practical techniques for couples and families who have faced the issue of addiction and are now striving to bring health and vitality to their relationships. In his earlier book, Stage II Recovery, Larsen introduced the idea that making relationships work is at the heart of full recovery from addictions.
In Stage II Relationships, he explores this theme in depth, offering sound advice and practical techniques for breaking unhealthy patterns of behavior that linger after sobriety has been achieved. Larsen stresses that abstaining chemically dependent people and those who love them (co-dependents) must face together the issues of self-esteem and intimacy, the problems of everyday living, and the challenge of learning to function more capably in healthy, caring relationships.
